Coming from a background of illustration, my work has always been of a humorous nature, albeit with a harsher edge. I am most interested in the darker, more primitive aspects of human nature and of my own imagination. Recent forays into printmaking have proved highly fruitful. Woodcutting in particular, with its wonderful directness and bold forms, has allowed me to explore these aspects, and has also brought about an awareness of a more formal, decorative aspect to the work that has surprised me, but which I will doubtless explore in future projects.
